The May Release Date of Feature Rich LG G3 May Turn Many Tables
If things happen as per the schedule, we can expect LG G3 to hit the shelves by the second quarter of 2014. Ongoing rumors in the industry hold the device will be launched in this month itself. The first week of this month has already gone, so does that mean G3 could show up in next week or the week after that? We’ll try to find an answer to this question in this article.
The first thing to take note of is two other devices are also slated for release in this year. Those devices are Google Nexus 6 and Moto X2. Both are high-end phones and so, G3 might have to face competition. An early release could give G3 an edge over the said devices, specially when Nexus 6 is rumored to replicate G3’s design related features as LG has been reported to be the manufacturer of both devices.
As per earlier reports, Google decided to release Nexus 6 in October this year, but as LG has been pushing the launch date of its flagship G3, Google may also speed up the Nexus 6’s release. But we believe it is unlikely because Google I/O is slated to take place next month and Google is likely to showcase Nexus 6 at the I/O conference. Thus, if LG launches G3 this month and Nexus 6’s release date awaits, G3 will capture the market.
There’s another telling argument to back up the claim that Nexus 6 will see the light of the day in October. A look at the Nexus series lineage shows Nexus devices are normally introduced in the last quarter of a year. Nexus 4 for example, was released on November 13, 2012 and Nexus 5 was released on October 31, 2013.
According to some sources, LG is bringing G3 to catch up with Sony Xperia Z2, Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8. These sources have mentioned a definitive date for G3’s release. They held LG is planning to release G3 on May 27 in US and UK. We need to wait some more days to see if the claim holds true, but it’s undoubtedly true that S5, HTC One M8 and Xperia Z2 have created quite a frenzy in both United States and in UK.
LG G3’s release dates in emerging markets such India and China are not yet known. A South Korean tech website however indicated that mass production of G3 has already begun. From this info, we can conclude two things. One, the may release of LG G3 is really on the cards and two, LG might target emerging markets for G3 release as soon as the euphoria sets off in the first world markets.

If unconfirmed reports are to believe, the initial sales target for G3 has been set by LG as 10 million. We need to keep in mind that G2, LG’s previous toy was a success and LG would likely to cash in on its success. Besides, Nexus 5 was also a hit and it is one of the devices that G3 aims to challenge.
Question is what could the outcomes if G3 releases this month other than the markets for S5, Z2 and Nexus 5 being upset. We believe Nexus 6 would have to suffer. Two previous installments in the Nexus series, Nexus 4 and 5 were manufactured by LG. So chances are high that Nexus 6 would also be built by the South Korean tech giant.
But G3 is rumored to release with uber advanced specs such as 1440×2560 pixels display resolution, 16MP rear camera, the octa-‘core Odin processor and 5.5 inch screen to accommodate 4K resolution. Water and dust resistance features would also be found in G3. Given they will be ace features, we don’t think LG would equip Nexus 6 with them. If Nexus 6 misses the said features and releases in October, it will have to struggle hard to take hold of the market from G3, which in all probability, would be at the helm by then.
